NAMIBIA ENDS THIRD AT COSSASA ATHLETICS

Team Namibia came second at the Confederation of Southern Africa Schools Sports (COSSASA) Athletics Championships held in Harare Zimbabwe. This year's championship saw Botswana, Malawi and Namibia joined by host Zimbabwe as they battle it out for top honours and bragging rights. Since day one, Namibia had to chase Zimbabwe as the host lead the medals table. Team Namibia was better in the field items and collected most medals. Some of the outstanding performances came in the Girls U14/15 High Jump were Chrisline Klein and Annemarie Le Roux scooped gold and silver. In the girl's U12/13 shot-put Porsche Botha won gold and silver. Ludwig Hubber showed his class in the Boys' U14/15 Javelin winning gold with a 56.83 metre throw. Namibia had another one two in the Boys U16/17 Javelin Throw with Johannes Smith and Jaco Anthonissen clinching gold and silver for Namibia. Although Zimbabwe dominated the matters over the three days, the land of the brave dominated in hurdles as Mione Garners, Porsche Botha and Carien OOsthuizen took gold silver and bronze in the Girls U12/13 meter hurdles. Girls U16/17 100 meter hurdles saw Natalie Louw and Anne Van Staanden adding gold and silver to Namibia's medal tally. On the final day, Namibia added six more bronze medals in the Boys and Girls U12/13 and U14/15 4 X 100 meter and the 1000 sprint relays with Zimbabwe and Botswana taking the first two places. In the end, Namibia collected 74 medals in total with 19 gold, 32 silver and 23 bronze. The host Zimbabwe tops the medal table with 92 medals 37 gold, 27 silver and 28 bronze with Botswana in third with 17 gold, 24 silver and 27 bronze a total of 68 medals. The next COSSASA Athletics Championships will take place in Botswana in 2018.
