Namibia qualify for U/20 Junior Rugby Trophy

Windhoek- The Namibian U/20 Rugby team recently qualified for the fifth consecutive time for the World Junior Rugby Trophy. The World Rugby Under 20 Trophy, also known as the IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy, is an international rugby union competition. The event is organised by the sport's governing body, World Rugby. Last year, the Namibian team ended fourth and they now have five months to prepare for the upcoming tournament, which is scheduled to take place in September in Romania. Head Coach Roger Thompson to shared light on the event. “This year we will look to go there and win the tournament we poses a very good squd a very talented squad at the moment, but they are definitely capable of going out there and winning the tournament. I think that don't be the mind-set that will be to win the first opening game with Romania four days later we played Hong Kong and the final group game will be Samoa, so once again it is a touch competition is tough because played against, but I think if we get our preparation in order it we manage to get three or four games before we leave to the tournament as a group we will be on par” Thompson said. As to how many African teams are participating in the tournament Thompson said ”Nobody from the Junior trophy in Africa has ever qualify to play in the Championship at least for the last seven to eight years, so there will be a massive challenge to us". The team is planning to improve their ranking position this year, although most of the players are based in South Africa for their studies, while others are attending Rugby academies.
