DAVID LYIMO A heroic display from Namibia's golden girl Johanna Benson earned the Namibian Paralympic team a gold medal in the women's T 37 400m category. Benson ran in a time of 1.08.51 at the London IPC grand Prix. Only three nations took part in the race, including Germany and France. They, could, however not stop the 2012 Gold Paralympic champion as she cruised onto the finishing line, breaking her personal best time which was 1.09.98 and winning U$2000 (N$28000) in prize monies. "It was like it was not me running in that race. I only realised what I had done once I crossed the finish line. It is a great achievement for me personally as I am busy preparing for Rio and to represent our Namibia Paralympic athletic team at these grand prix events " an elated Benson said. She added that it wasn't easy for her and her teammates to compete against the best athletes in the world "who are better funded in sport than us. However, it will always be an honor to represent Namibia and it makes me happy to run for my country." she said. The team left London yesterday and are expected to arrive in Windhoek this afternoon.
