Namibian fly-half keeping fit in Romania

2019 Rugby World Cup Fly-half Helarius Kisting, who is currently in Romania, spoke to NBC Sport this weekend to tell his story of training and endurance in a faraway country. 26-year-old Helarius Kisting is currently based in the city of Mare in Romania for his sporting career. In Romania the total number of Coronavirus cases stands at 6,300. The Mariental born fly-half, like most athletes worldwide, is trying to keep his head above water, using different means to stay active and fit during the lock down which has also been enforced in Eastern Europe. “We have been under isolation for almost a month now and it is really getting mentally challenging especially for us who loves to be outboards and do what we love to do its really though” Kisting said. Romania has been under lock down since the 15th of March and is supposed to end this coming Friday. However with the total number or cases still rising the lock down period might be extended. The 2019 World Cup Fly-half has managed to get some help from the club by means of equipment to help him in his efforts of staying conditioned. Kisting is currently playing for CSM Baia Mare and has a two year contract that ends next year December. The players are, however, not being paid by the club during this time but are getting some form of compensation from the Romanian government instead. “Us, the foreign players are lucky, now that everything is closed and everything is cancelled we fall into the Romanian unemployment salary gap, so they still compensate us a certain amount of money for the time being” . Kisting also sent NBC Sportdesk a message for the people back home. “All I can say to the people back home is , just be a little bit serious, I know we are young and we just want to get out, but protect other people as you are protecting yourself against them. I know its mentally challenging, but stay at home, stay safe. The virus doesn't move we are moving the virus so if you stay home the virus is not going to move at all” he concluded.
