Namibians to participate in 4th Sport Fishing world games

Namibian anglers will take part in the 4th edition of the Sport Fishing World Games in South Africa, also known as the Olympic Games of Angling. More than 3000 anglers from around the world are expected to participate in five different categories as of this weekend. The event will consist of 13 World Fishing Championships in the Freshwater, Saltwater and Fly Fishing divisions, taking place at various towns in South Africa, from the 9th to the 17th of this month. The Games will be attended by 50 Nations and more that 200 teams from around the world. There will also be two Region 5 Events for the Freshwater Bank Angling and Light Tackle Boat Fishing. The opening ceremony of the 4th edition of the Sport Fishing World Championships is set to take place in Johannesburg this Saturday at 11:00 am at the Sandton Convention Centre. Some of the members of the Namibian Shore Angling team engaged in the last days of practise at the coast, and NBC sport caught up with them to find out more about the games and their preparation for the event. S/B: DANIE ”We will not be targeting any sharks. No shark with teeth will be targeted that, is unknown to the anglers from around the world” Team manager, Danie du Toit said. The main fish that will be targeted is sand sharks that will be from 500 grams to 3 to 4 kilograms. Out Du Toit also said that he hopes that the shore angling steam can perform as well as they did in the past. “We have a great team that was elected. Our ladies are of the best that can go down, the masters team are, anglers with allot of experience and our men's team also is guys that are fishing for the Namibian team the President ‘s team for a number of years and hopefully great results can be achieved”he said. Most of the participants already travelled to South Africa, with the last bunch to follow on Tuesday.
