Namungongo hails NSC to bring Sports Awards to Ongwediva

The Ondangwa Town Council Chief Executive Officer says they are happy with the Namibia Sports Commission's decision to select their town to host this year's annual sports awards. Ismael Namugongo says it is a great opportunity for athletes and sport administrators at grass roots level to be part and parcel of sports excellence celebrations. The awards which are to take place on the 2nd of October will see local sport athletes from different sport codes rewarded for their hard work throughout the year. Namugongo says, the opportunities presented by the awards being held at the town are immense and therefore the Council has already commenced with preparations. He cited that, amongst others, the awards are a great stepping-stone towards Council's strategic plan for the town to be a magnet, which will pull some of the country's major events. " It's a great opportunity for our local economic development, not only in Oshana region or Ondangwa town council, but in the whole north central regions. Events of this magnitude bring in a lot of people and they need our services" Namugongo said. He said the visitors are not only coming for the awards, but will be exploring opportunities that the region can offer. Namugongo further said the Council is ready as for years they have prioritised infrastructure development at the town. "We have many sport participating kids playing in the streets and by them seeing all sport heroes and heroines and rubbing shoulders with them this in itself is an inspiration. It's an inspiration for children playing soccer in the streets seeing members of the brave warriors in Ondangwa and this in itself will inspire them" he said. The awards will be hosted at the Ondangwa Trade Fair Hall.
