NATIONAL INDOOR HOCKEY WOMEN’S TEAM RETURNS HOME

HILENI MATHEUS Earlier today, the National Indoor Hockey Women’s team returned home from the fifth Women’s Indoor Hockey World Cup, which took place in Berlin, Germany from the 7th to the 11th of February. Namibia was placed in Group B alongside Ukraine, Australia, Russia, Czech Republic and World Cup Winners Germany. Namibia beat Ukraine, who are ranked 7th ,3-2 and drew against Russia and Australia leading them to face USA for 9th position, which they won by a shootout after a 5 all draw. NBC Sport caught up with Coach Erwin Handura at the Hosea International Airport Handura said he couldn’t be happier as a coach as he spoke highly about the various games they played. NBC Sport then interviewed team captain Margaret Mengo and one of the players, who was named top goal scorer of the tournament. Mengo said that the competition was tough as they competed not only for the sake of partaking. She explained that everybody who attended the World Cup was proud, talking about the overall performance of the Namibian National team. Kiana Cormack was named top goal scorer of the tournament and said that it was an amazing feeling and that she didn’t expect it. Namibia is ranked first in Women’s Indoor Hockey in Africa and the team has been making great strides in the sport.
