The Namibia Football Association's women's desk has expressed excitement over the Confederation of African Football women's champions league, which is set to be launched in 2021. Member of the CAF Women's Summit Jackie Gertze said the NFA women's desk is excited about the competition as it will present many opportunities for growth. “To hear that a championship league for Women's Football in Africa becomes a reality. It's an exciting news for everyone and everywhere in the world you could follow the social media that the Football Associations in Africa are very excited. Even the top playing nations such as Nigeria Ghana, Cameroon are advocating now for the fact that. They hope that more countries are playing Football at Association level and Namibia is one of them” Gertze said. Gertze explained that the competition is part of the four-year strategic plan for women's football development at CAF level and that the champions league is one of the first events they are introducing and implementing. “This is going to be a great exposure for our super league teams and our league will also grow in terms of more players who would like to play in Namibia. It will strengthen our local player's competitiveness. If we have one or two players in a club coming from another country and our players might also play in other countries to be part of the champions league. Our European based players when their seasons are off might want to be part of a club that goes to the champions league, because it's a big thing” she said. Twelve teams are expected to compete for the top spot this season. The kick-off date for the super league has however not yet been finalised, because some of the league members are from the Erongo region. Erongo is still in stage 3 of the state of emergency, meaning that contact sports are not allowed in that region, while traveling from and to that region is also restricted.
