No Money for NPL: Ekandjo

The beleaguered Namibian Premier League was dealt another blow when the Minister of Sport, Youth and National service Jerry Ekandjo told Parliament that there is no money for the NPL. Jerry Ekandjo was answering questions to DTA’S parliamentarian Vipuakuje Muharukua on what the government can do to help the situation. “There is nothing in the kitty of the ministry as we have disbursed monies to the Namibian Sport Commission to the tune of 38 million while we are also of the conviction that not all avenues have been explored by the NPL.” Said Ekandjo. Ekandjo was then further grinders by DTA president McHenrty Venaani who implied that the Minister call an urgent indaba to address the matter “We cannot have a Premier League that is not functioning. The Ministry must at least call a corporate indaba to discuss this because if this continues we will not produce the kind of sportman and women we want to produce.” Added the DTA President. Ekandjo explained that as per the Namibian sport Sport act the NPL along with the Sport Commission should approach the Ministry of finance for a loan if they wish but his ministry was empty. “According to the Sport act The sport commission, association can approach the Ministry of finance for a loan.”Responded Ekandjo. The Minister further said that the direct people who will be affected are aboutr 6 600 players but his Ministry was unfortunately not in a position to come to the rescue as they are experiencing budget cuts.
