NRU dreams big for local Rugby

The Namibia Rugby Union leadership still have high hopes to achieve the goals set out in their strategic plan, despite setbacks caused by Covid-19. This was revealed by NRU Vice President: Governance Walter Don. The Namibia Rugby Union was supposed to launched its new strategic plan at this year's Annual General Meeting, with the main focus on good governance and accountability as a way of improving the sport code in the country. Among other things, the idea is to make sure that all Premier League clubs have qualified mentors as explained by the NRU Vice President Governance, Walter Don. “It is high priority to look at the club coaches, but also we want use the opportunity of not currently having international or regional activities to up skills our clubs' administrators and the coaches as well, as soon as we have the opportunity to do so” Don said. However, for this to happen, NRU is waiting to be provided with expertise by World Rugby. In line with this, Don also named Women's Rugby as one of the priorities. He said they have already been provided with financial assistance in that regard. “Women Rugby must be pushed high on the agenda and on the score card. We have been given assistance from the World Rugby, the development fund to specifically kick off that Rugby” he added. NRU also dream of taking Rugby to all regions in the country, as well as improving on talent identification and player welfare programmes.
