Okahandja United hold NPL champions African Stars to a draw

Okahandja-Okahandja United were held to a 2 all draw by Namibia Premier League Champions African Stars in their first official game under their new name and management. The pre-season friendly match was played at the Okahandja Stadium on Saturday. Newly named Okahandja United, previously known as the Military School before the change of name and ownership to make the team eligible to play in the top league, used their original yellow and blue outfits. Usually, the preseason friendly matches are used by coaches to improve the fitness of their players ahead of the league kick-off. It seems, however, as if Okahandja supporters who came in numbers, wanted nothing more than a first good impression of their new team. The supporters were nonetheless disappointed in the first half as the visitors African Stars took the lead through Alfons Handura to go one nil just before the break. Under pressure from their fans, Okahandja United got the equalizer from Star Kahengurova early in the second half to make it one all. African Stars were not done and got a second goal 15 minutes before the end of the game as their new signing from Tigers, Roger Katjiteo was on target. The home team were determined not to disappoint their supporters as Donaldson Hindjou got the team back on level terms five minutes before the end of the game. Ultimately, it ended Okahandja United 2 African Stars 2. The Okahandja United Coach Gerson Ndjoonduezu was very satisfied with the team's performance. “We did very well against the team that won the league last season. I am very proud of my boy's performance. Yes we need experience players, but we have also very good players that will get experience as we go” Ndjoonduezu said. On his part, the man who was behind the idea of changing the team's ownership, Congo Hindjou, was over the moon to see the effect that the team has on Okahandja's Community already. “If the people came in this numbers, just for a friendly match what can you expected in the premier league matches , this is all I wanted in the town for people to have something to look forward to every week” Hindjou said. Hindjou ended the interview by saying the new executive will have to sit up and take some big decisions as per the road ahead for the team.
