Only winners at Special Olympics Namibia regional games

Windhoek-Special Olympics Namibia hosted their first regional games in Windhoek over the weekend and according to the organisers, it was a win-win situation for everyone involved. The Regional Games, which were hosted for the first time in Windhoek this past weekend, turned out to be a great success, according to Simon Muinjo, the Regional Director of Special Olympics Namibia. I'm very happy with the number of athletes with intellectual disability who came and participate in different type of sports, there are no winners or losers in this games we are using this games to try and reach out to all the regions in Namibia to identify talent as well as to select athletes for International games like the world games next year as well as the national games that will take place in August”Muinjo said. Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sport disciplines for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Those activities give them continuous opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship. Muinjo said through sports, athletes see themselves for their abilities, not disabilities - therefore there are all winners. The occasion was also attended by the Chairperson of Special Olympics Namibia, Cliff Olivier and other sport personalities.
