Recently, 13 track and field para-athletes took part in a month-long training camp at Swakopmund, preparing for the 2019 World Para Athletics Championship in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Fifteen qualified para-athletes from Namibia will be participating in the 2019 World Para-Athletic Championships. At a recently held camp in Swakopmund, thirteen athletes trained together, with two preparing for the global competition in Windhoek. With perfect conditions on most days, athletes enjoyed training outside in cool coastal weather. The training camp also served as a team building exercise for all involved athletes. Michael Hamukwaya, NPC Secretary General, said in an interview with NBC Sport that the camp was of high quality and that he knows the athletes are ready for the championship. “We started this training camp already on the 6th of October. We saw that Swakopmund was one of the best places that we could use, because of the facilities of the Dome and the stadium. This will also help us with the team building and to see were the athletes are” Hamukuaya said. Roodly Gowaseb, who will compete in the 100m T54, believes the camp was a great success. “We are almost there, 80 %. Expect good things to come out of this training camp. We need all the support we can get and we will come back with something” Gowaseb said. The 2019 world championships will be held in Dubai from the 7th to the 15th of November.
