Remain focused and in shape - Ahrens

The chairperson of the Namibian Athletes Commission, Gaby Ahrens, urges athletes to remain focused and in shape during the lockdown in Namibia. Gaby Ahrens set an end to her professional sporting career after the Rio Olympic Games in 2016 and took up the role of a mentor instead. The mission of the Namibian Athletes' Commission is to represent the views, rights and interests of athletes and make their voice heard within the Namibia National Olympic Committee. Ahrens, who is a former Olympic trap shooter, said she knows it’s difficult to try and remain focussed, in shape and positive for sports events when you cannot even be sure when they will take place due to ongoing postponements. "My tip for you is to go on this website have a look www.athlete365.org developed by the International Olympic committee. It is extremely helpful for athletes in high performance . It will teach you about mental health , the importance of resilience , how to bounce back. Also look at other courses, it’s all for free. It will also teach you how to sell yourself as an athlete , how to pull in sponsorships. Go have a look guys you will love this"she said. The Namibian Athletes Commission executive members are Ahrens as Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson is Lesley Vermeulen and the rest are Marathon runner Beata Naigambo, Cyclist Michelle Vorster, Boxer Mattias Hamunyela and Co-opted NOA member former Olympic Swimmer Monica Bohm. Meanwhile, new dates for the Olympic Games have been released by the IOC. They will likely take place from the 22nd of July till 8th of August 2021
