Namibia's senior women's Cricket team has officially started training at the Wanderers sports grounds over the weekend. When the women's cricket team resumed training this weekend, it was evident that the guidelines of stage four of the state of emergency were in full force and observed, with a register completed and temperature checked upon arrival at the field. The players were also reminded to adhere to social distancing at all times. It was all excitement and relief on the field when players finally got back to doing what they love. National Bowler Eveleen Kejarukua shared her excitement. ”I feels amazing to be back, especially before the first lock down we were struggling with no training , with no cricket , no games, no tours . That actually broke most of our hearts, because you are used to a routine, you are used to been on the field, even if you miss classes to come to Cricket.That's how awesome enjoy playing this cricket, that's how much this sports means to us” Kejarukua said. Kejarukua explained that she is not really scared of contracting COVID-19 as they have implemented all necessary measures. She encouraged more women and girls to join them as they want to grow and make a difference in women's cricket. Assistant coach Gareth Cloete was equally excited that the players returned eager and energetic. “I think it's important for them now as a group after the qualifiers that was played a few months ago, just to get back into the routine of things making sure we working hard. You never know when the next assignment might be around the corner. With sports slowly returning around the world it's actually going to be in good state to make sure that we are ready for when any of those competitions arise” Cloete said. He also called on women and girls who are interested in the game to contact the Cricket office as their dream is to have girls and women playing cricket all over the country. As such, Cricket Namibia already has plans to introduce a 6-a side girls league in schools for the first time in Namibia.
