Two Namibian top swimmers - Alexander Skinner and Phillip Seidler – still stand a chance to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan. This was revealed by Aileen Botha, the President of the Namibia Swimming Union at the just-ended Bank Windhoek Namibia National Long Course Championship, which was held at the Olympia Swimming Pool over the weekend in Windhoek. Alexander Skinner and Phillip Seidler are both studying outside Namibia’s borders at this point and might just qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. Skinner who has been training with Dolphin Swimming Club is now alternating his training between Windhoek and the United States of America, while Seidler is mainly being trained in South Africa. Namibian Swimming Union President Aileen Botha believes the two of them stand a realistic chance. “We will have our two swimmers that can qualify for the Olympic games. Seidler is currently competing is qualification competitions in South Africa while Skinner is competing in States” Botha said. So far, four Namibian athletes have qualified for the Olympics, but the number is said to increase, depending on the sportsmen and women’s performance on the international scene.
