Stars win Super Cup

LESLEY TJIUEZA African Stars beat Tigers 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Sam Nujoma Stadium to record their 2nd consecutive Standard Bank Super Cup triumph. Stars were the defending champions and won their right to play Tigers by winning Standard Bank Super Cup playoffs in August ,also having beaten Tigers 1-0 in last year’s final. But it was Stars who took the honors yet again when it mattered most as Panduleni Nekundi, Dennis Ngueza and Treasure Kauapirura scored to lead Stars to a 3-0 victory to retain the Standard Bank Super Cup. After a dominant opening for Tigers that had Llewelyn Stanley, Gustav Isaak and Absalom Iimbondi linking up well, it was Stars who got the important goal as former Tigers goal poacher Panduleni Nekundi slotted home on 14 minutes, thanks to a great run down the right by Tjiuana Tja-Tjinotjiua. Stars then found their footing with the likes of Ronald Ketjijere, Katiti Hakuria and Edwin Korukuve maneuvering the ball with relative ease. They took the momentum into the second half and right back Dennis Tjetjinda headed home at the far post to put up Stars at 2-0 . Nicky Musambani replaced Hakuria in the first half due to a throat injury, and Alfeus Handura came in at halftime for Marius Kotze and later on Godwin Jena substituted Edwin Korukuve. Mapenzi Muwanei and Sakaria Petrus came on for a rather dismal Tigers but could not change the game and in the end Kauapirura found space in the Tigers box to beat the hapless David Peterson in added time. Obrey Amseb of Stars walked away with the man of the match award. Stars walked away with coveted trophy and a cheque of N$ 500 000, while Tigers received N$ 200 000 for their part in the memorable game. The glittering event had Gazza entertaining the crowd right up to the awards ceremony.
