Michelle Vorster won both the Nedbank Mountain Bike and Road Challenge races held on Saturday and Sunday respectively in Windhoek. Meanwhile, Brandon Plaatjies emerged victoriously in the elite men's Mountain bike category, as Belgian Victor Campenaerts scooped the Road challenge. For the first time ever, three Nedbank Cycling events were being held over one weekend. The action started on Saturday with the Mountain bike challenge as well as the Kiddies challenge, which took place at Waldorf School in Windhoek. It attracted close to three hundred cyclists in their respective categories, taking on the steep hills as blood, sweet, tears and dust were the order of the day. Michelle Vorster and Brandon Plaatjies won the elite categories at the event. The Cycling action continued on Sunday with over one thousand cyclists taking on the 20km, 30km, 60km and elite 100km distances. Vorster who is preparing for the Tokyo Olympic games, continued with her winning strike. She completed the women's 100km road cycling race three minutes clear of second placed Imke Jago and Risa Dreyer. It was a different story in the men's elite race as it seemed difficult to break away for to a bunch of seven cyclists, who included Belgium Cyclist Victor Campenaerts. With just one spot up for grabs for the men to the Tokyo Olympic games the competition was tough, more so with Namibia's professional cyclist Dan Craven aiming to defend his title, while the youngsters equally fought for that spot. It was the visiting cyclist who eventually won the race four minutes ahead of Craven and Freyer. The race for the Olympic spot continues next weekend during the national championships.
