The Namibian National Women's Cricket Team was given an official send-off on Wednesday ahead of their travels to Rwanda's capital Kigali to take part in the Kwibuka tournament starting on the 6th of June. The team was hosted by the Capricorn Group, who are about to become the official sponsor of Women's Cricket in the country. Speaking at the send-off ,Capricorn's Group Executive Brand and Corporate Affairs, Marlize Horn, described the partnership as one that they could not miss out on given the sound leadership that exists within Cricket Namibia. “We are proud to announce that we have entered into an agreement with Cricket Namibia on becoming a main sponsor of Women's Cricket with a specific focus on the National Women's Team, the Eagles, as well as the girls’ festivals, tournaments and school league to further develop girls programmes” Horn said. Two of the players on whom the team will rely on for success on the field are bowler Sylvia Shihepo and middle order batswoman Sune’ Wittmann who are both excited to travel to Rwanda for the tournament. Shihepo said “We are just excited to go out there and play the brand of Cricket again. It's been quite some time since we last played, so we just want to go there and enjoy the game”. “All preparations have been very good. We are very privileged to have our new coach. There have been lots of hard yards and so it's not only net sessions. Physically we are prepared and mentally we are prepared too," Wittmann added. The team is set to compete against Kenya and Nigeria in Group B with their first match on Monday 7 June against Nigeria followed by Kenya on Tuesday 8 June with each team to play two matches against each other and the group winner making it to the final.
