Landless People Movement Deputy Leader Henny Seibeb tabled a motion in the National Assembly calling for NamWater to write off all debts owed by local authorities in the country. Motivating his motion in the house on Wednesday, Seibeb put the NamWater debts at N$1.4 billion of which N$600 million is owed by local authorities. He says both local authorities and the regional council owe the water utility large sums of money and this need to be cancelled or ring-fenced at least, for the local government to start on a clean slate. NUDO SG Joseph Kauandenge supported the motion saying the government must subsidise water for the most vulnerable members of society.
