More than N$450,000 was raised during the 2023 Luderitz Crayfish Festival Gala Dinner.
The festival is slated for the weekend of April 27–29.
The primary objective of the festival is to position the town of Luderitz as a tourism destination as well as serve as a platform for businesses and individuals to invest in the town.
Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Silvia Makgone launched the 2023 festival.
"Our beautiful country is faced with the challenge of creating economic freedom, especially for the previously disadvantaged members of our society, hence the gathering of this evening, and the proceeds of this evening will be used to subsidize our community members so they can have a stake in the festival. I am informed that hosting the festival annually is but one of several initiatives designed to take the harbor town of Luderitz on the right path in order to achieve sustainable and meaningful development."
Also speaking at the event were ||Kharas Governor Aletha Frederick and Luderitz Mayor Benjamin McKay.
"We need to continue to emphasize more development investment opportunities in Luderitz and maybe strengthen value-added activities to grow the local economy and do that to create jobs."
"If it were not for the Ministry of Fisheries and our government, this festival would not have taken place."
MTC, which is also the official sponsor of the Luderitz Crayfish Festival, pledged the highest amount of N$150,000.
