The dust has refused to settle in the Sibbinda Constituency following the appointment of a cleaner.

The community feels the appointment was unfair as the position was not advertised to accord all interested residents a chance to apply.

The position became vacant after the retirement of a permanent cleaner at the constituency office.

A relief cleaner was appointed for six months, and after which the Zambezi Regional Council sourced applications from the Ministry of Labour's Namibia Integrated Employment Information system to fill the position on a permanent basis.

It is this appointment that some Sibbinda villagers opposed resulting in the closure of the office for two weeks, because of alleged threats directed to the officials there by the concerned group.

Sibbinda Councillor Micke Lukaezi blames the situation on the regional council for sourcing the applicant instead of giving everyone a chance to apply or educating people on how the system works.

The concerned group as well as Lukaezi also informed the Zambezi Chief Regional Officer, Regina Ndopu-Lubinda of their dissatisfaction over this and other appointments.

"I was not aware so we found out the process they used NIES system, this new system started in 2017 which is not much known to the people, people thought may be according to their understanding corruption, because for them it was not fair so they need an explanation from the employer."

The Constituency office was, however, re-opened on the 20th of February, and the cleaner's appointment remains.
