Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says exhibitions are vital for both economic and cultural development.

They are also long-term drivers in the promotion of innovation and an important element in economic growth, as well as a prerequisite for job creation.

She made the remark at a fundraising dinner held ahead of the Ondangwa Trade and Industrial Exhibition Center at Ondangwa Airport Lodge.

Nandi-Ndaitwah says local exhibitions must be encouraged in countries such as Namibia, where economic development needs a push from all directions.

Exhibitions can only have a lasting impact on the lives of targeted groups if they are well-planned and have clear goals.

Trade expos help the community gain a deeper understanding of the beliefs, behaviors, norms, standards, and values that exist in the business environment.

The Deputy Prime Minister says Ondangwa must grow from being a transit town to a town where many want to live and invest.

"Ondangwa should position itself by creating a conducive environment for small and medium-sized enterprises to find a home in this town and make use of the scheme. Ondangwa is one town that has major infrastructure such as rail and an airport, both of which are necessary for easy movement of goods and people for sustainable development to be realized."

Nandi-Ndaitwah called on young people and women to take advantage of the SME economic recovery loan scheme, recently reinstated by the government, to revive their businesses and play a central role in the country's economy.

She believes that the planned Ondangwa Trade Fair and Industrial Expo will inspire upcoming businessmen and women and young entrepreneurs to take calculated risks to start realizing their business ideas.

It should also motivate the SMEs to seek opportunities for growth in their businesses as SMEs.

Over N$670,000 was pledged at the dinner, with the Rani Group of Companies pledging the highest amount at N$110,000, followed by Red Force with N$100,000 and FNB Namibia with N$50,000.
