A 12-year-old girl was attacked and killed by a crocodile in the Kavango River.

Acting Kavango East Regional Police Commander Commissioner Aino Nambahu says the little girl went to fetch water with others at the river.

The deceased was identified as Eleotheria Mashe Ngoma, a resident of Shikoro Village in the Ndiyona Constituency.
 
He says the body was retrieved from the crocodile, by a brave resident who was close to the scene.

The resident, who identified himself as Nambahu, says he chased the reptile with a dugout canoe until it let go of its victim.

However, Nambahu regrets that his intervention came too late, as by then the girl was already dead.
