Rundu Urban Councillor Victoria Kauma says she's happy with the level of development in the constituency, though at a slow pace.

She was speaking at a 33rd belated independence celebration at Rundu.

Kauma pointed out notable changes in the areas of education, roads and health services, in particular the realization of the maternity ward at the Rundu State Hospital. 

"The one project I have right here in my constituency is the maternity ward, the time I came here, the maternity ward was just there at the old place but now when you go to the hospital maternity ward, it is a very big hospital on its own and our women are no more sleeping on the floor."

Despite these achievements, there is still much to do to fight poverty in the constituency.

Kauma explained that though belated because of other commitments, it was necessary to observe the country's independence celebrations so that the message of the jubilee could reach all at every level.

Delivering the President's speech was the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Dr. Daniel Kashikola.

"Independence is freedom from control and influence of others, in other words, one does not depend on other people, it is the ability for one to pursue his own destiny without hindrance without fear, and without limitation therefore there is no greater guarantee of human dignity than independence."
