The Aranos Village Council has recently allocated more than 200 serviced residential plots to locals and property developers.
The mayor of Aranos Village, Hans Baffrat, revealed this in an interview with nbc News.
Baffrat says land delivery tops the list of his priorities, and he's working to accomplish them during his first 100 days in office.
"Last year I was sworn in as mayor, and when I was sworn in, I made a decision and took a 100-day plan. In this 100-day plan, I have decided to come up with a plan to serve the people. One thing that I was thinking about was land. As an apolitical leader, I am coming from the political party Landless People's Movement, and I decided by myself that the first thing I concentrate on is this land."
The mayor revealed that other top priorities of his 100-day plan include reducing debts running into millions of dollars that the village council owes the bulk electricity and water suppliers.
The village council owes NamPower close to N$3 million, while its debt with NamWater stands at N$2 million.
Baffrat says the long wait for ministerial approval for land sales is a cause for concern.
