The president of TUCNA has called on the government to hold employers accountable and to ensure sound labour relations at workplaces, especially in the fishing industry.

Paulus Hango made this call during the Worker's Day commemoration at Walvis Bay.

While calling on the government to introduce a national minimum wage, Hango also accused the Ministry of Labour of failing to address the challenges workers are facing.

"We have so many systems that turn workers down; labour cases are taking a long time. Many workers in unions do not have the capacity to challenge unfair dismissal or unfair labour practices in the high court because the system is too expensive. The Ministry of Labour has failed the worker in many ways; the ministry has failed to make amendments to the Labour Act 11 of 2007."

Solidarity messages from various affiliated unions were also delivered.
