The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Nandi-Ndaitwah called on the business community to assist the government in building more school hostels.

Nandi-Ndaitwah says communities are establishing makeshift hostels because learners walk long distances to school.

"When our people put up community hostels it's a clear message that a hostel is needed at a particular school, because of the limited resources our government over the years was unable to take over each and every community hostel but there are some that were taken over by government while some were assisted by giving food, therefore, we will really appreciate all Namibians who have the capacity to invest on our education and hostels is one of the sector they can look at very seriously."

The hostel accommodates about 170 learners, most of them from the San community.

The bed stands and mattresses donated by private companies about five years ago are now in a poor state.

School Principal Moses Ndumba says learners in the hostel are provided for through a community crop field and through teachers' contributions.
