The World Health Organisation (WHO) Country Representative Dr. Charles Sagoe-Moses says Namibia has made great strides in public health having eradicated and lessened the number of communicable diseases.

"Thanks to the early and continuous partnership of WHO  and other agencies, the United States Government and other partners, this country is one of the first high-burden countries to approach epidemic control estimated to be at 92-99-94 as defined by the UNAIDS 95-95-95 treatment cascade. New HIV infections have halved since 2004 and life expectancy increased by 12 years from 51 in 2001 to 63 years in 2020. The end of the Hepatitis E outbreak in March 2022 is another major achievement and signifies the importance of partnership and multisectoral response in outbreak control."

Dr. Sagoe-Moses added that Namibia has remained Polio free for 15 years now and has sustained investment in integrated Polio surveillance in partnership with WHO.

As part of the World Health Organisation's 75th anniversary, the organization appointed Miss Namibia Cassia Sharpley as its Champion, a title she will hold until April next year.

"At WHO Namibia we proudly announce a special partnership with the Miss Namibia organization and are happy to have Miss Namibia 2022. In-person, Cassia Sharpley as WHO Champion for 75 Anniversary. Given her passion for health and social justice, she will be an asset in advancing WHO's work in ensuring that every Namibian has access to essential health care. When and where they need it as well as prioritizing and protecting the most vulnerable from the potential risks hazards."

Sharpley welcomed the platform, which she said will help her to contribute to the welfare of the nation.

"I would like to express my gratitude toward WHO and the Miss Namibia organization for this opportunity given to me, to use my voice in the promotion of health for all. This collaboration with WHO's 75th Anniversary campaign is giving me a platform to further serve Namibia as a queen beyond my period of reign."

The Chief Executive Officer of Miss Namibia Organisation Umbi Karuaihe-Upi was also present at the occasion
