The Central Committee meeting of a faction of SWANU, led by Evilastus Kaaronda, will go ahead as planned this weekend, despite opposition from the other camp.
Kaaronda was elected as the party's president at a Central Committee meeting and national congress last year.
He says since then, he has been working tirelessly to save the fortunes of the party and propel it to the next level amidst a leadership dispute.
Charles Katjivirue was elected at the party's extraordinary congress in 2021 and obviously disapproved of the holding of the Central Committee meeting by the other faction.
The leadership dispute to determine a legitimate leader is now in court, and both Katjivirue and Kaaronda have different expectations.
Pending the verdict, Katjivirue is accusing Kaaronda's leadership of abusing the party's meagre resources, but the former trade unionist-turned-politician Kaaronda says the party has recognised the structure in place.
He is convinced that the court verdict will be in his favour.
Kaaronda is therefore adamant that the meeting this weekend will go ahead as planned.
Meanwhile, in a letter seen by nbc News, former SWANU President Usutuaije Maabaerua, who had been invited to address the Central Committee, turned down the invitation, accusing the current party leadership of misusing the party's resources.
