Mourners gathered at Otjiwarongo to pay their respects to the late Manfred |Uxamb, who was widely regarded as a leader who deeply understood the needs of the people.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Otjiwarongo was filled with family, friends, and former colleagues who gathered to bid farewell to the late |Uxamb.

He holds the distinction of being the first black mayor of Otjiwarongo following Namibia's independence and also served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Otjiwarongo municipality.

Throughout his life, |Uxamb demonstrated a remarkable commitment to the well-being of his community. His leadership qualities were evident in his profound understanding of the challenges faced by the people he served.

A successful businessman, |Uxamb served as the spokesperson for the Chinese-invested Whale Rock Cement and Cheetah Cement.

His dedication to the betterment of his community was evident in both his professional and political endeavours. 

He joined the Swapo party in 1967 and faced a nine-month period of imprisonment for his mobilisation efforts.

He is survived by his five children: three boys and two girls.

|Uxamb died at the age of 68 after collapsing at his residence in Arandis.

His funeral was attended by dignitaries, including the Minister of Labour, Industrial Relations, and Employment Creation, as well as governors and councillors.

In recognition of his contributions, Manfred |Uxamb was honored with an official funeral and buried at the Otjiwarongo cemetery.
