The India-Namibia Centre of Excellence in Information and Technology has been inaugurated at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST).
The centre aims to uphold the highest standards of education by fostering research and engaging with the community.
The centre is Namibia's response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and aligns with the Harambee Prosperity Plan, aiming to ensure that no one is left behind.
It is based on a longstanding relationship between the two countries and aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Since its inception, the centre has successfully graduated over 276 students and trained six master trainers.
Currently, it offers courses in various disciplines, including communication, data cybersecurity, information security, and advisory technology, as stated by the Vice-Chancellor of NUST, Dr. Erold Naomab.
India's Foreign Affairs Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, highlights that the centre is equipped with a state-of-the-art high-performance computing system. This system will significantly enhance the research capacity and create opportunities for researchers, students, and industries to actively participate and contribute to the knowledge economy.
On the occasion, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, encouraged the students to utilise the centre effectively and positively in order to make valuable contributions to the country's economy.
The centre will also work closely with the statistical agency during the national census.
