Swapo Party Member of Parliament Elifas Dingara says he will honour the invitation by the Hambukushu Traditional Authority when he returns from his official trip aboard and explain how the alleged illegal fence came about.
However, Dingara denied fencing off the area illegally, saying he consulted the surrounding communities to curb stock theft.
Dingara says the escalating crime of stock theft prompted the community to look for alternatives because reporting to the police alone was not addressing the problem.
He says that since he was one of those who were affected the most, he decided to sponsor fencing material and labour for the project.
Dingara says this stock theft buffer was intended to seal the gap between his farm and that of another Member of Parliament, Tjekero Tweya, Fumu Erwin Munika Mbambo, and another community member.
The MP says villagers from at least 12 villages attended the meeting last year, where a decision to fence off the area was taken.
He added that the Hambukushu Traditional Authority was represented at that meeting.
