The Director General of the National Planning Commission, Obeth Kandjoze, says the town of Ludertiz will become a major potential employment creator once the green hydrogen project becomes operational.

Kandjoze was speaking at the launch of the NDP6 formulation process in Windhoek.

"The town of Ludertiz is going to be flooded by a number of potential jobs. This project will bring forth not only green hydrogen but also the first oil and gas in the next five years of planning. It can't be left to mandate holders, and planning takes a step back. This is a huge undertaking for the country, and planning must play a role."

Kandjoze also touched on the government's plans to take up an offer of a 24% stake in Hyphen Hydrogen Energy.

"There is also no rejection by the government in the take-up of the 24% equity; there is no such rejection expressed either in the government or anywhere."

He also revealed that regional visits for the green hydrogen project are expected to kick off soon.

"There is a cabinet instruction that, through the Green Hydrogen Council, we have been directed to visit every region and, where possible, engage traditional leaders or local authorities in the quest to explain the nature of the project and the construct of that very agreement's benefits and job potential. We will start with ||Kharas, then Hardap, and from there we will spread to the rest of the country."
