The member states of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) are set to review the implementation of the Strategic Plan for 2022–2027.
Currently, the SACU Council of Ministers is meeting in Eswatini.
The SACU Strategic Plan 2022–2027 is centred on six pillars, including industrialization, export and investment promotion, trade facilitation, and logistics.
The strategic plan also looks at the implementation and leveraging of opportunities under the Africa Continental Free Trade Area.
Various factors have impacted the execution of the strategic plan since its adoption, some of which could have dire consequences for the economies of SACU member states.
The Council of Ministers is meeting ahead of the 8th SACU Heads of State and Government Summit to be convened by King Mswati III of Eswatini on Thursday.
The Heads of State and Government Summit is expected to provide further political and strategic guidance to the SACU Secretariat on a number of issues affecting the Union.
