The Executive Director of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), Dr. Audrin Mathe, is urging Information and Media Officers working for the Ministry to focus on the positive stories about development in Namibia.

The ED was speaking at a refresher workshop for Information and Media Officers about revamping government publications to bring information closer to the people.

Dr. Mathe says the job of MICT writers is to paint a positive picture of what is happening in the country.

"Our magazine must be consistently positive. Each time you tell your child they're silly or stupid, you are already instilling in them the belief that they're stupid. The moment you tell your kids every day, My kid, you are the smartest boy I've ever seen, they always rise up with a positive attitude because they know their parents believe in them. We must not be telling our citizens that they are very stupid by telling them negative stories about government; we have to unwind that."

The ED says the government is looking at going digital with service provision.

"To ensure that all government services are digitised and available online, we have to lay out infrastructure in all parts of Namibia. There is no point in us having to digitalize our government, but people in Okatope don't have access to the internet."

The Ministry of ICT has acquired equipment that would allow them to live stream the government's development efforts, and future plans include owning a printing press.
