The eastern and western Dioceses of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN) held their 153rd annual mission festival at Eembaxu and Euvathano in the Ohangwena and Oshana regions over the past weekend.

The mission festival is an annual event on the calendar of ELCIN where deaneries come together to commemorate and celebrate the missionary work brought by the Finnish missionaries who arrived at Omandongo in Onayena Constituency on July 7, 1870, to plant the seed of Christianity in Namibia.

According to the Eastern Diocese Mission Director, Rev. Asser Shivute, the three-day mission festival also serves as a platform to review the ELCIN activities and as a fundraising event to collect funds that will enable the church to fulfil its mandate of serving people spiritually and socially by preaching the gospel, offering counselling services, and providing essential services to the needy.

The same event will be hosted next year, where all ELCIN deaneries from both Eastern and Western dioceses will come together at Omandongo's Okangili in the Oshikoto Region.
