The faction of the Ovaherero Traditional Authority (OTA) under newly inaugurated Dr. Hoze Riruako commemorated Red Flag Day at Okahandja.
Red Flag Day serves to pay homage to the Ovaherero ancestors.
The commemoration further aims to foster unity among the Ovaherero community.
"Unite all the people that have been divided and fragmented by the Germans during the colonial war, and therefore an umbrella body was required, which is the red flag," says Gotlieb Kazombiaze, Secretary General of the Red Flag Association.
"Due to the loss of lives, they came together in unity and diversity and kept all three flags, having an identity."
Events such as this, Kazombiaze states, should serve to cherish history and are to be observed with due respect.
"Wherever we are paying homage to our elders, we should wear this uniform, and the red flag should be given a symbol, which is a code of arms that states "Mukuru uri pu naete" (God is with us) Samuel Maharero, and that's why you wear that on the badges of the hat. And that's why from 1924 up until now, which marks 100 years of today's commemoration, this medal was given to Samuel Maharero to remember this day."
"God is with us here, and we stand united. United we stand, divided we fall. And that is the call abroad to the ovaherero to come together in commemoration, whereby we are seeing the red flag, the green flag, and the white flag."
