An Angolan national committed suicide by hanging at farm Meidelin in Grootfontein District, Otjozondjupa Region.
The deceased man has been identified as 36-year-old Alfredo Venalavo.
This was confirmed by Otjozondjupa Police spokesperson, Inspector Maureen Mbeha, on Monday.
According to Mbeha, Venalavo was involved in an altercation with his girlfriend on the night of July 22.
The family advised the couple to sleep in separate rooms.
However, on July 23, when Venalavo’s girlfriend, accompanied by relatives, woke up to go to his room, he was nowhere to be seen.
Mbeha says preliminary investigations reveal that Venalavo drank petrol and ran into the nearby bushes, where he hung himself with a rope tied to a palm tree.
Venalavo left a suicide note scrawled in Oshikwanyama, but the police cannot determine what he wanted to write.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
The next of kin are informed.
