All Namibians will enjoy the opportunities and benefits of the Green Hydrogen Project, as outlined in the Socio-Economic Development framework.

The framework was recently launched by the government in collaboration with the Hyphen Green Hydrogen Project.

The Green Hydrogen Commissioner, James Mnyupe, expressed these sentiments during the one-day stakeholders' engagement conference on climate financing.

The framework will focus on employment, skill development, and local procurement to ensure that locals fill more than 90% of the required workforce.

When the government was engaged to build this project, we said, We understand the project is big, but we want our local people to be involved. We curved out a few things, including employment, and there is a target for 90 percent of the employment to be Namibian. In terms of local procurement, we have a 30% target for local procurement, and that project is about N$200 billion."

This is already evident in the Daures Green Hydrogen Village, which started its first phase early this year and is making an impact in the surrounding communities.

The project is set to produce tonnes of green hydrogen and ammonia.

"The current project structure is that 10% of this project share holding actually seats with community groups, about 7,5% with the Daure Daman Traditional Authority, and 2,5% with the Tsiseb constituency. We have commitments with the community groups around  employment where as 50% is to be source from the Daures constituency and 30 percent with respect to construction is to be allocated to SMS in the Daures, said Daures Green Hydrogen Village CEO Jerome Namaseb.

The Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia (EIF) hosted the first stakeholders' conference with the aim of informing, engaging, and sourcing inputs from its stakeholders.
