The leadership of the Zambezi region has welcomed the anticipated construction of a raw water pipeline by NamWater.
This pipeline project carries a price tag of N$2.4 million and is poised to effectively meet the future forecasted water needs across both urban and rural areas of the region.
Addressing attendees at the groundbreaking ceremony, the governor of the region, Alufea Sampofu, commended NamWater for its ongoing endeavours in delivering reliable clean water services to the area.
Abraham Nehemia, the Chief Executive Officer of NamWater, stated that the pipeline project is among numerous initiatives aimed at resolving historical and existing water supply challenges within the region.
"This pipeline is core to water supply in the Zambezi Region as the town of Katima Mulilo and the community's services by the Katima-Sibbinda pipeline, Katima-Bukalo pipeline, and Katima-Linyanti pipeline would not receive water if the raw water pipeline is not in good operating conditions."
In addition, NamWater undertook to rehabilitate the clear water reservoirs in Katima Mulilo at a cost of N$5,4 million in the project, as well as erected a pump station at Sachinga to enhance water pressure in the pipeline.
While commending NamWater for addressing their appeals, the councillor of Katima Mulilo Rural Constituency, Matengu Simushi, urged the water utility to also explore avenues for supplying affordable water.
