Over 150 talented competitors from across the country have gathered to showcase their skills in a wide range of trades, including hairdressing, bricklaying, woodwork, hospitality, and many more, for the 3rd edition of the National Skills Competition.
Speaking during the official opening, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Technology, and Innovation said the competition is a clear testament that Namibia is fast moving towards self-reliance through robust technical skills.

The National Skills Competition aims to celebrate and recognise the exceptional talents of Namibia's skilled workforce and provide a platform for participants to demonstrate their craftsmanship in their respective fields.
The event promotes the value of vocational training while also inspiring young people to think about careers in professions that are frequently overlooked in favour of more traditional academic paths.
Natalia |Goagoses speaking on behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, said the TVET system, through the provision of quality-oriented, industry-focused, and competency-based training, must improve the productivity and competitiveness of a skilled work force in order to grow Namibia's economy.
"Our TVET system must prepare and align better for the challenges ahead. Part of the solution is to attract talented, young Namibians to the TVET sector and ensure that we transform into competitive and competent workers with the right mix of talent, skills, and attitudes."
The National Skills Competition serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of vocational education and the immense talent that exists within Namibia's skilled workforce.
Oshana Governor Elia Irimari says the competition also inspires young people to pursue their passions, explore diverse career paths, and contribute to the country's economic growth and development.
"It goes without saying that the availability of technical skills stands central in our endeavour to develop our region. Our young people need to embrace technical training opportunities and empower themselves with skills that will allow us to add value to our natural resources."
The competition fosters a sense of collaboration among the participants, creating a platform to exchange tips, share techniques, and encourage one another to do better and become job creators.
