A 23-year-old Gobabis resident, Denzil Davids, appeared in the Gobabis Magistrate's Court, charged with the murder of Yolande McCallum, the mother of a man with whom he previously fought.
Davids was denied bail, and his case was postponed to February 12, 2024.
It is alleged that Davids followed McCallum's son to her house following a fight between them earlier on Saturday evening in the Epako residential area.
He reportedly found his rival standing with his mother next to a parked car and allegedly rammed his vehicle into them.
David's vehicle hit the woman, who died on the scene.
The Nossobville community demonstrated in front of the Gobabis Regional Magistrate's Court prior to the case being heard, strongly opposing the granting of bail to Davids.
Group Spokesperson, Wallance Finnies, says, "With evidence and witness statements, we believe Mr. David's actions were deliberate and intentional. Mr. David's deliberate actions caused the death of an innocent mother and the breadwinner of a peaceful family. We are convinced that the case should be treated as a serious international and gruesome murder case, for his own sake and the safety of the grieving family and friends. We ask the court to keep Mr. Davids in custody."
In a separate incident, Johannes Wedeinge, a 44-year-old truck driver, was arrested after allegedly being found in possession of 76 parcels of skunk cannabis valued at close to N$4 million.
NamRA officials made the bust at the Trans Kalahari Border Post during a routine scan and search operation.
The suspect appeared in the Gobabis Regional Magistrate Court, where he was denied bail.
