The Namibian Rugby Union has organized a tag tournament scheduled to be held at Windhoek High School this Friday. Over 250 children, both boys and girls between the ages of nine and 13, from various schools including Elim, Gammams, Khomasdal, MH Greef, and ST Andrews Primark, will be participating in this event. The tournament will take place on the field of Windhoek High School.
Coach Ryan de la Harpe expresses his disappointment that only a few schools in Windhoek are involved in rugby. He mentions that the children have been training for nine weeks and this tournament will provide them with a glimpse of what competitions in rugby are like. He believes in investing in the future of Namibian rugby and wants to showcase what the sport is all about, hoping to see some of these children represent Namibia at prestigious events like the World Cup or Olympics. Coach Ryan de la Harpe is excited about the talent he sees in the children and feels privileged to work with them.
Katrina Simeon, the principal of Elim Primary School, expresses gratitude for the initiative as it has been a while since their school has been involved in rugby. She thanks the Namibian Rugby Union for providing this program, as it gives their learners the opportunity to explore rugby and discover their potential beyond academics.
Parents who have been supporting their children in rugby are also thankful to the Namibian Rugby Union for organizing this tournament. Additionally, some players who will be participating in the tournament express their appreciation for the sport.
The tournament will commence at 8 am and conclude at 3 pm.
