The Roads Authority has allocated N$29,8 million towards the rehabilitation of a six-kilometre section of the Onhuno-Ondobe road in the Ohangwena Region.

This project marks the second phase of the 47-kilometre stretch of road set for rehabilitation.

The first phase of the project, which commenced last year, saw the rehabilitation of 608 kilometres at a cost of N$28 million. 

The Corporate Communications Manager of the Roads Authority, Hileni Fillemon, emphasised that the project will be executed in multiple phases due to its significant cost.

"We have started with phase two of the Onhuno-Endola road, and the work is progressing well. The contractor is on site, and we have started with the rehabilitation of that road because obviously the road is beyond its lifespan."

The second phase of the project is scheduled to take place over a five-month period.

"I would like to appeal to the public to please drive slowly; they must reduce their speed when they arrive at that section of the road; they must adhere to the erected road signs; and they must please cooperate with the contractor. We have constructed by passes while we are working on the road, which is currently under construction."

Unik Construction Engineering Namibia was awarded tenders for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the project.

The rehabilitation of the road is set to ensure safer travel and speaks to the Roads Authority's dedication to improving road infrastructure in the country.
