At the year-end function of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security, Minister Dr. Albert Kawana commended the collaborative efforts of different departments in advancing the ministry's objectives.
Highlighting the ministry's achievements, Dr. Kawana emphasised the role of visionary leadership, the exceptional service of officers, and the unwavering dedication of the team, which together ensure the smooth functioning of the ministry's critical operations.
Dr. Kawana outlined some notable achievements, with a particular emphasis on the implementation of 24-hour border services, the introduction of a performance and recognition award policy, and the customer service care policy.
"This year, we proudly introduced 24-hour border operations at the Trans Kalahari border post between Botswana and Namibia and the Katima Mulilo border post between Zambia and Namibia. This is to enhance our nation's security around the clock. Additionally, the issuance of visas upon arrival at strategic entry points such as Hosea Kutako International Airport, Trans Kalahari Border Post, and Walvis Bay Airport has streamlined processes for welcoming visitors efficiently."
The 24-hour border operations and efficiency in passport issuance upon arrival have an impact on the movement of people and goods, as the minister pointed out.
"In order to promote economic growth, it is important for Namibia to ensure that the movement of goods and people is seamlessly implemented. It is even more important that Africa has opened up trade when our leaders have decided that there should be free trade in Africa."
The Minister commended Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo for his dedication and notable efforts within the Police Force, specifically in recognising the achievements and promotions of 4,682 police officers.
Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo emphasised that the success achieved was made possible through the unwavering support of the Ministry.
The ministry's annual address underscored its commitment to excellence, innovation, and collaborative efforts in service to the nation.
The unveiled initiatives and achievements signal a promising future for both the ministry and the Namibian Police Force.
