The |Khomas Regional Council says it has made positive contributions with targeted projects in the health, safety, and security sectors for the 2023–2024 financial year.

Among its successes in the health sector are the renovations of the Donkerhoek Clinic to the tune of N$1.5 million.

The Chairperson of the |Khomas Regional Council says the renovation at the Donkerhoek Clinic includes an additional doctor's consulting room, a pharmacy, and the installation of air conditioning at the clinic.

Shaalukeni Moonde says they are also renovating the Hakahana Clinic at a cost of N$1.35 million.

In addition, they are also renovating the Katutura Health Centre at a cost of N$1.6 million.

Council, he says, is at an advanced stage in procuring a fully fledged ambulance to be delivered and handed over to the Ministry of Health by the end of March, costing over N$1.3 million.

"The Council funded the construction of a prefabricated outreach clinic at Mix Settlement. The construction of the prefabricated structure is 100% complete. The electricity transformer has been upgraded by NamPower, and the contractor is currently busy with the electrical wiring. Furthermore, the council is awaiting deliveries of the basic clinic equipment by the supplier."

With regards to safety and security, the council has successfully installed eight CCTV cameras at various crime hotspots in the informal settlement in Samora Machel Constituency, valued at N$564,000.

Moonde says the council has also resolved to assist NamPol in the |Khomas Region to fight crime by repairing a number of grounded vehicles and renovating the police holding cells.

The total allocation to these initiatives is N$1.5 million. 

"KRC is in the process of procuring the services of a contractor for the supply and installation of high-mast lights at Samora Machel Constituency; it is anticipated that this project will be completed by March 2024."

As far as the Social Safety Net Programme is concerned, the Council says it will continue to commit N$500,000 to the 'Back to School' and the Winter Safety Net projects, each for the 2024–2025 financial year.
