The Swapo Party Regional Executive Committee in the Zambezi Region has suspended its coordinator, Moffat Sileze, over allegations of missing party funds amounting to N$47,000. The committee revealed this during a media briefing today.
Speaking during the media briefing, Swapo Party Regional Information and Mobilisation Officer Dorothy Kabula stated that Sileze's suspension is effective as of January 27 and that he had been served with the suspension letter.
"His suspension resulted from accounted funds that went missing from the Regional Operational Account, amounting to N$47,000 towards the end of November 2023. The purpose of the suspension is to allow an investigation to take place. Cde Sileze remains innocent until proven guilty by authorised, established organs legally allowed to deal with misconduct cases."
Sileze confirmed receiving the letter, adding that he has refused to sign it because the regional executive committee has no power to suspend him as that power lies with the Politburo. He further stated that he refused to vacate the office, and he remains the regional coordinator.
Contacted for a comment Swapo Party Secretary General Sophia Shaningwa confirmed that she was aware of the suspension, but she was still waiting for the details in writing.
