The Mariental Municipality has warned members of the public about scammers calling residents and requesting payments for their municipal services, such as water and electricity supply, not to be disconnected.

In a notice issued, the municipality states it has not appointed anyone to request an e-wallet and EFT payments from residents to avoid the disconnection of municipal services.

It reminded residents that all payments for municipal services are done at the municipal offices for which a receipt is issued and warned them not to make payments to anyone. 

Besides paying their municipal bills at the municipal offices, residents are also advised to pay their accounts through direct bank deposits into the municipality's bank account.
