The Executive for Information and Communication Technology at Namcor, Bonifatius Konjore, has been suspended following allegations related to a substantial payment of N$68 million for an organisational operations software system that is reported not to be fully functional.

Konjore, entrusted with the responsibility of managing and directing the development and implementation of multi-disciplinary integrated application systems, has 27 years of experience in the ICT sector, with extensive experience in the telecommunications, government, and utility sectors.

His role involves overseeing the efficient operation of the ICT department and ensuring its alignment with Namcor's objectives.

The suspension was confirmed by the manager of marketing, communications, and PR at Namcor Paulo Coelho.

Namcor has been investigating the purchase of the system, which has cost the company millions of dollars more than what the board had approved.

The software system is allegedly failing the national petroleum outfit, and red flags were raised around the purchase.

"Namcor hereby announces the suspension of its executive, Bonifatius Konjore, with immediate effect. The decision to suspend Konjore is part of an ongoing internal investigation into possible misconduct. It is important to emphasise that the Konjore suspension is not indicative of guilt but rather a standard protocol aimed at a fair and unbiased inquiry."

Coelho also outlined the way forward, emphasizing that the matter would be handled internally within Namcor.

"During Mr. Konjore's absence, Mr. Louis Du Toit, Executive of Finance, will act in his stead. It is important to mention that this matter is an internal matter, and as such, NAMCOR refrains from commenting on any ongoing investigation."

As investigations into the matter continue, Namcor will handle the probe internally.

The suspension of Bonifatius Konjore underscores the seriousness of the allegations and the need for accountability in public sector operations.

The managing director of Namcor has been on suspension for almost a year for an alleged unauthorised expenditure of N$100 million for an oil block in Angola.
